30/4 Social Screenings: The Black Panthers:Vanguard of the Revolution

On "Social Screenings"— the first "proper" documentary about the Black Panther Party, made more than 30 years after its dissolution. The Black Panthers combined a message of self-help, pride, the demand for justice, protection and revolutionary fervour. The documentary paints a picture of a strong and dangerous movement that achieved many victories but also faced many issues both from the inside and the outside, including harsh state repressions and literal murders of its leaders by the police, but also sexism, in-fighting, and paranoia.

The film will be shown in English. As always, a short informal discussion afterwards and suggestions for future films are welcome.
