Social Screenings: The Battle of Algiers (1966)

The Battle of Algiers describes the events leading to the battle of the capital city during the Algerian war of independence (1954-1961). The film was inspired by a book written by a National Liberation Front (FLN) commander Saadi Yacef.

The tactics and violence of the FLN guerilla as wel as the fench counter-insurgency forces are depicted and many non-professional actors who themselves were part of the fighting play in the film, including Yacef. Come and see if we can find some Fanon inside!

The movie will be screened with English subtitles.
An informal discussion will follow after the screening, as usual.
